The Board of Trustees composed of nine members emanate from different field of expertise with local and international experience ranging from Economist; Educationalist, Finance, Law, Agriculture, Public health, and House of Representatives.

H.E.Madam Mariam Mwinyi

Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees

Her Excellency Mariam Mwinyi is the Founder and Chair of the Board of Trusstes of the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation. Madam Mariam is the wife to His Excellency Dr. Hussein Ali Hassan Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar and Chair of Revolutionary Council who is bringing into ZMBF a vast experience of more than 20 years in the field of public health and social welfare. H.E. Mariam is further bringing into the Board her leadership abilities to design and manage investment for profit and non- profit initiatives given her self-employed experience as well as being former employee of National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), Board Member of Marie Stopes Tanzania. She has passion on advancing social protection and empowerment of women and youth; promoting and scaling up maternal, adolescent health and development and childhood growth initiatives. She is dedicated to champion efforts against Gender Based Violence. Her Excellency Mariam is a graduate from the University of Birmingham and Manchester where she was awarded Masters in Health Economics and Masters in Education for Primary Health care respectively.

Madam Asha Mahmoud Mzee

The Vice-Chairperson

The Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation. She is an educationist, Multilingual, and has majored in Foreign Relations which enabled her to work in Tanzania and beyond. Her education and vast experience enabled her to work as a translater, Academician as a Tutor as well as work on official developmental-based Organizations. Madam Asha holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Management of Foreign Relations, Degree in Teaching French as a Foreign Language. She is also a member of various organizations such as the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) Zanzibar

Dr. Ellen Mkondya Senkoro

Board Member

Tanzanian Medical Doctor and Public health specialist with 25 years of working experience in the Global Health development space. Under different capacity she is experienced working with Government, the bilateral & multilateral Development Partners, and Non-Government Organizations environment, which has enabled effective interaction with social, political & administrative structures from global, national to the community levels. Dr. Ellen has provided stewardship and strategic leadership as the founding CEO to the Benjamin William Mkapa Foundation (BMF), from its establishment in the year 2006 to the current status, whereas excellence has been registered by impacting the lives of 20million people in Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. This includes making BMF the Non-Government entity that is the 2nd largest employee in the public sector facilities after the Government. She has spearheaded setting up and reinforcement of the health systems and structure by advancing programs on Human Resources for Health including Community Health Workers, HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis, Reproductive Maternal Newborn Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), and COVID-19 related services in underserved areas of Tanzania.

Dr. Mwatima Abdalla Juma

Designer

Agricultural specialist and over 36 years of experience in the field especially in Project management enabled Dr. Mwatima to contribute strategically to the development of the Agriculture field in Tanzania. Her areas of expertise include Agricultural/rural development projectspreparation/appraisal; institutional/organizational arrangement and implementation support and supervision. She has led Research into defined areas of agricultural production to fill knowledge gaps in the production chain; capacity of rural small-scale producers, soil fertility/productivity assessment, and rural development issues She was involved in the formulation of a sector-wide approach (SWAP), policy dialogue, networking, and linkages with other related development partners in the area of agriculture. Dr. Mwatima has 20 years of active involvement in the development of Organic Agriculture in Tanzania, planning and implementation of smallholder projects related to rural finance, marketing, and crop/livestock production. She is also, experienced in conducting complex negotiations for multi-lateral loan agreements.

Hon. Mgeni Hassan Juma

Board Member

She is an experiencedmember of the Zanzibar House of Representativeswas Chairperson of The House of Representatives and Chairperson of women caucus in the Zanzibar House of Representatives 2010 and a gender-sensitive enabled her to becomeThis enabled her to be the first women member ofParliament to table Private Motion on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and moved for amendment of criminal procedure act and evidence law which resulted to the amendment of criminal procedure act and evidence act and further increased the number of one-stop centerfor GBV cases in every district and campaign on GBV spearheaded by the Government.Her vast experience and charisma enabled her to be the first woman to be elected as Deputy Speaker of the Zanzibar House of Representatives in 2015 the post of which is still holding. She was the first woman to be elected as Deputy Speaker in Zanzibar In 2015.Her academic qualification includes a master’s degree in Geography and Tourism Management and Tourism and leisure.

Madam Zakia Hamdani Meghji

Designer

Former Member of Parliament for 30 Years through the ruling party Chama cha Mapinduzi, Deputy Minister and Minister for over 14 years, and as the first woman to hold the post of Minister of Finance has enabled Madam ZakiaMamdanMeghito contribute strategically to the National Development Framework for the United Republic of Tanzania including the health sector. She has also served as Regional Commissioner, District Commissioner, and a Program Manager in International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Tanzania for the program on Women and Youth where she gained experience in reaching all groups including the marginalized groups in the communities

Mr. Nassir Ahmed Haji

Board Member

With a legal backgroundand vast experience in Litigation, Human Rights, Anti-corruption issues, and civil engagement., Mr. Nasir is currently working under the Ministry of Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Services, and Good Governance, Zanzibar. His legal skills and experience enabled him to practice as anAdvocate of the High Court of Zanzibar and the High Court of Tanzania. Mr. Nassir isa holder of a Master’s Degree holder from the International Anti-Corruption Academy, Austria specializing in Anti-corruption Studies inthe ‘sand a member of Zanzibar Law Society (ZLS) Tanganyika Law Society (TLS), and East Africa Law Society (EAS). He is dedicated to working tirelessly for his Government and the Society at large.

Prof. Mohammed Hafidh Khalfan

Associate Professor with a Ph.D.in Economics, with commendable experience having worked in both the Government and Private Sector With commendable contribution to the economic development of Zanzibar. Further Prof Mohamed has served in several Boards strengthening the Public-Private Dialogue. During his tenure as CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, he was a Co-chair of the team that prepared the Zanzibar National Export Strategy (NES) under the Commonwealth Secretariat. Prof. Mohammed is accredited to several charitable actions serving the needy including serving as a Chairperson of Kanga Maternity Trust (KMT), an NGO aiming to reduce maternal mortality and support care for newly born babies. He is also freelance lecturer and consultant.

Mr. Jaha Haji Khamis

Board Member

Competent and skillful professional contributing over 11 Years of experience in finance & accounts, banking operation, auditing, compliance, and procurement, his academic carrier, currently, studying h.D.Ph.D.in Business Management from Open University –Tanzania, since he has acquired MBA in Finance (investment and valuation) and Advance Diploma in Accountancy from Zanzibar University, and IFM respectively. Possess competence in banking operation, accounting/financial reporting activities on ensuring the compliance of international financial reporting standard (IFRS) issued, internal audit tasks through adherence of international standard on audit (ISA) risk management, and procurement issues. Having acquiredprofessional knowledge in accounting (CPA), Banking (CPB), and Procurement (CSPT) as issued by NBAA, TIOB, and PSPTB respectively.
